One to Watch, a Crime Thriller by Rachel Amphlett

one to watch

Rachel Amphlett was kind enough to send me an ARC of the 3rd Kay Hunter novel One to Watch which is due out worldwide 6th June.  Thank you Rachel, very much appreciated.

I loved books 1 and 2 so I had high hopes for this one and was super excited to read it. It didn’t disappoint, the story line was interesting, the characters complex and there were plenty of twists that I didn’t see coming.  I got totally engrossed in the story, in fact I was hooked from the first page and had that feeling of disappointment that you get when you finish a really good book because you don’t want it to end.

Kay is such a likable character, she is gutsy and honest and you just want something to go right for her for a change as she has had a string of bad luck over the last two books.  I feel so sorry for her as she is still having issues with a thoroughly unlikable superior officer and someone is out to get her and stop her investigating a past case. They are now coming into her personal space to stop her which is creepy and very scary.

You can tell it’s a well written book when the characters bring out many different emotions in you.  I think I cycled through all of them from anger, disbelief, sadness and empathy right the way through the book, it was a real rollercoaster.

I highly recommend this book; it’s a real page turner that you don’t want to miss.  This is a really great series of books and I can’t wait for the next one!

If you haven’t read the first two I would recommend that you read them in order to that you have an understanding of the history and background story.  The reading order is:

Book 1 – Scared to Death

Book 2 – Will to Live

Book 3 – One to Watch

Here is the blurb on the book: –

One to Watch (Detective Kay Hunter book 3)

Sophie Whittaker shared a terrifying secret. Hours later, she was dead.

Detective Kay Hunter and her colleagues are shocked by the vicious murder of a teenage girl at a private party in the Kentish countryside.

A tangled web of dark secrets is exposed as twisted motives point to a history of greed and corruption within the tight-knit community.

Confronted by a growing number of suspects and her own enemies who are waging a vendetta against her, Kay makes a shocking discovery that will make her question her trust in everyone she knows.

One to Watch is a gripping murder mystery thriller, and the third in the Detective Kay Hunter series.
